New Secretary sought for British Society of Aesthetics - deadline extended
Thursday, April 15, 2010 at 5:09PM The British Society of Aesthetics seeks to appoint a new Secretary, with effect from September 2010. Applicants should be professional academics working in philosophical aesthetics, broadly conceived. The role includes overseeing the administration of the Society's PhD Studentship competition, Bi-Annual Essay Prize, and Conference grants scheme, as well as general administrative tasks.
Applicants should also be prepared to participate, where required, on one of the Society's various script committees (a normal expectation might be one reading duty per year); and more generally, to work as an active member of the Executive Committee, on behalf of the Society. Attendance at tri-annual meetings is expected (for which travel expenses will be paid). Attendance at the Society's annual conference is desirable; conference fees and travel expenses will be reimbursed. In its current form the role also attracts a £500 honorarium. However, the Society is also seeking to appoint a paid part-time administrator, whose role will be to support Secretary, Treasurer and Chair in their duties, and whose work the Secretary will oversee.
Previous engagement with the British Society of Aesthetics is desirable but not essential. Please send a covering letter, outlining your suitability for the role, and what you would bring to it, together with a CV, naming at least one referee who could speak to your suitability, to the current Secretary, Kathleen Stock at k.m.stock@sussex.ac.uk by 30 April.
