Wittgenstein and the idea of Oeuvre
Tópicos de Teoria Literária (12 ECTS, S1, 5ª, 10:00-13:00, Nuno Venturinha)
Program in Literary Theory, Faculty of Letters, University of Lisbon
Starting from Wittgenstein’s statement that the Tractatus consists of two parts, one of which is written, the other not written, an idea closely linked to his claim that the book is strictly philosophical but at the same time literary, we shall explore, in a first phase, the complex and novel structure of the work. The seminar will also focus on Wittgenstein’s various attempts (and various methods) to write a second philosophical work, one capable of overcoming the expressive limitations of the Tractatus. In this connection we shall examine closely the multidimensional character of the Nachlass.
